It has been 6 weeks since the participants of this year’s SACBC Sabbatical Programme have gone home and returned to their respective ministries. We hope and pray that they have had time to prayerfully reflect on their vocation and ministry in the church and found wellness and wholeness for themselves.
What happens during this Sabbatical programme?
The time is divided between presentations during the week as well as communal activities including daily Mass, praying of the liturgy of the hours and, going on a week-long retreat as well as several outings in and around Port Elizabeth and of course some time for rest and reflection.
This year, the participants started with a segment on “stepping into the Sabbatical” which included a segment on living a healthy lifestyle and explored diet, exercise and gentles with self as well as forgiveness. This was following by week long presentations by local and overseas Presenters on St Paul, Self-Transformation, Prison Ministry, Ubungoma and Laudate Si. Halfway through the Sabbatical the participants went on a week-long retreat. After the retreat more presentation followed on topics like: The second half of life, Strength based Leadership and Ministry, Baptism – Priest, Prophet and King, Mission and Ministry and finally Mindfullness.
Once a week the participants were able to meet with Spiritual Directors and each Friday they met with Moira Boshoff for 2 hour Capacitar courses. Moira Boshoff who was the founder and director of the Care Ministry Organisation here in Port Elizabeth from 1994 to 2016 has been a facilitator for “Capacitar Living in Wellness Workshops and Retreats” for Religious Sabbatical Programmes, volunteer care-givers, nurses, teachers, social workers, refugees, children, schools, special needs since 2003. She is also a trainer for Capacitar.
What is Capacitar?
Capacitar means to empower, to encourage, to bring each other to life. Capacitar is a non-profit organisation based in California and founded by Dr Patricia Mathes Cane and was introduced in South Africa by invitation of the SACBC in 2003. Capacitar teaches simple practices of healing, team building and self-development to awaken people to their own source of strength and wisdom so they can reach out to heal injustice, work for peace and transform themselves, their families, and communities.
There are 2 Hour, 4 Hour or 1-day Capacitar Living in Wellness and Capacitar for Children workshops using Body-Mind-Spirit practices for volunteer care-givers, nurses, teachers, NPO’s, community leaders, anyone suffering from Compassion Fatigue, or traumatic stress.
Capacitar is designed to empower people in their own healing process. A variety of practices, some ancient and some new, are offered for unblocking traumatic stress ‘frozen’ in the body-mind-spirit and for bringing balance and harmony back to the whole person.
Where can I find Capacitar if I want to try it?
We are currently planning some courses with Moira here at St Luke’s Retreat Centre for dates towards end of this year / beginning of next year. Join our emailing list or check our Website / Facebook / Instagram pages regularly for updates.
