January 5, 2025 – Trusting completely

Dear pilgrims of hope,

do we feel safe in the Father’s hands?

This morning at Holy Mass I sat between the families with little children in the back of the church. As I looked around, I observed the smallest ones (under 1 year old) looking around with eyes as big as saucers. They looked at the choir, the people, everything in wonder.

One little boy who cannot walk yet, stood on the pew, holding on to the side, while his Dad’s hand gently steadied him. Although he could not wander off as he sometimes seemed to want to, he did not seem to feel restricted or upset about it. All he experienced was the joy in feeling the safety of his father’s hand.

To trust completely means to become like little children. To put ourselves into the Father’s hand and trust that He will hold us. When we fight against His hands, that is where we get into trouble.

Do I trust God with everything in my life or do I prefer to keep some things for myself? Do I compartmentalise and only allow Jesus into certain parts of my life? Do I really trust him with everything or do I prefer that he stays out of my finances, my sex life, my career plans, my family or any other areas?

Trusting God means to trust Him with everything. Not only the parts that we think we need help with. Because let us be honest, we need help in all things whether we realise it or not.
